Westerplatte (WW2)

Duration: 2-3h

Price: 400zł

This is a perfect walk to learn/review the history of the beginnings of the World War II. We will walk through the peninsula, where the Poles heroically defended their munition depot from September 1st through 7th in 1939. We will see the remnants of the military base, will learn the history in the natural conditions: the ruins of the garrison, the cemetery of the soldiers, the guardhouse and the beautiful Monument of the Coast Defenders commemorating the bravery witnessed during this important, historic battle.

The best way to get to Westerplatte is by ship along
the river Motlawa.  This 45-minute cruise will take us through the shipyard and harbor areas and give better understanding as to why this port area was a crucial landscape for Poland to defend and for the Germans
to capture.  On the Westerplatte peninsula you can eat the best soldier pea soup in the world cooked by Mr Wojtek!

We will learn:

  • whether Adolf Hitler visited Westerplatte

  • what the Westerplatte stratagem was all about

  • why Major Sucharski compared the surface of Westerplatte to the surface of the moon
