EU Center of Solidarity

Duration: 2-3h

Price: 400zł

This walk will bring us closer to the important moments of August 1980, that helped Europe take the first step on the road to freedom.

To understand what happened in 1980 we will turn back time to December 1970, the period of events that authorities wanted to delete completely from the history of the nation, but thanks to ordinary people's determination the memory of these events was immortalized with the creation of the Monument of the Fallen Shipyard Workers.

We will visit the objects that were center stage in the strike of 1980, led by Lech Walesa (future president of Poland), we will feel the emotions of Solidarity Carnival. From the terrace of European Solidarity Center we will also see the shipyard areas.

We will learn:

  • which object from the 1980 Strike was listed as a  Unesco World Heritage Site – Memory of the World

  • the history of the Gdansk shipyards
